The Aspectus Energy Events team have just returned from Amsterdam from our sixth year working on the pan-European communications and engagement programme for POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe.
Through this long-standing relationship, we have watched the power industry across Europe change as companies begin to realise the impact of the energy transition. This is perfectly summed up by the theme of this year’s show: ‘The Energy Transition is Changing Europe’.
But despite this change, and the inevitable challenges faced by the sector there was an overwhelming feeling of positivity at the show. Everywhere you turned there were decision-makers and influencers calling for innovation and action – there were people shaking hands, making deals and engaging with each other across social media. Take a look at the #PGE15 hashtag and you can see the positivity yourself! You can also get some great first-hand insight from those who attended and spoke at the conference as well view a host of images and ‘stand-selfies’ from those using the hashtag while on the exhibition floor.
One of the key highlights of the show was from Maria van der Hoeven, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency. She kicked off the show with an inspirational keynote, which called for powerful and decisive action from policy makers and the energy industry to make meaningful changes to Europe’s energy sector.
The Gala awards dinner was also a highlight – the Aspectus team donned their favourite dickie bows and attended the event. With a live jazz band and white asparagus on the menu we were in our element, as the most efficient and forward thinking energy companies and projects were recognised for their achievements.
On the second day, the main event was the Joint Panel Plenary Discussion which saw five speakers present their starkly different views on Europe’s energy transition, which resulted in an interesting, and at times very heated, debate.
So, all in all, this years POWER-GEN Europe 2015 was yet another fantastic instalment, and we can’t wait to kick-start the campaign for next year’s event in Milan.
