The morning of May 9th was a rainy one. When I arrived at Aspectus PR, drenched and with frizzy hair, I was greeted brightly by my incredibly friendly new co-workers despite the gloomy day. I’d had some experience in financial services and B2B PR already, but I still had some first day jitters. However, when I walked through the door that’s where I left them. My new colleagues immediately made me feel welcome and I knew instantly I was off to a good start.
Not only was my desk and computer set up already, they even had an agenda prepared, clearly outlining what I’d be up to over the next two days. Between orientation activities, training sessions, lunch dates, global introductions to the UK office and account work, my schedule was full. And the warm reception did not stop there. There were friendly emails from across the globe and with lunch lined up too, I was not only welcomed but also well fed!
During the first few days, I was eager to get up to speed with my new role. That’s when the real fun began. Soon, I was learning about my accounts, my responsibilities and more about my fabulous, quirky co-workers. Finding out, for example, that Christine bakes often and loves to share her homemade treats with the office, or that Steph is a foodie who knows all the best restaurants in New York City. (Meaning I need to hit the gym more regularly!)
As you would expect at a global PR firm, it didn’t take long to find myself busy with account work. Although any new job can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning, my colleagues have been extremely supportive – introducing me to our financial services clients such as Fidessa and Asset Control, while making me feel part of the team.
Since starting at Aspectus, no single day has been the same. That’s part of what makes PR so exciting. I’ve done everything from day-to-day account management and reporting, to pitching and securing media coverage in core financial services trade publications, to writing press releases with exciting news announcements. Already, I am excited to be taking such an active role on my accounts and I can’t wait to get even more involved.
One of the many reasons I feel fortunate to have joined Aspectus is the group dynamic; the management style here fosters individual and team growth and everyone is eager to help each other out. The client work has been both challenging and fascinating and I look forward to learning more about them and their offerings.
My first few weeks have been an incredible learning experience and I am excited to continue on this journey with Aspectus. And, pretty soon, I won’t be the newbie anymore, so I look forward to helping our new intern settle in when they start for the summer.
