Although not always famed for our athletic prowess (see previous demonstration of netball skills) let it never be said that Aspectus PR shies away from getting stuck in for a good cause. It was the ‘good cause’ element that we were holding on to when a select number of our UK Financial Services team embarked on a walk from Kingston-upon-Thames to Paternoster Square in Central London last Friday. We were joining part of the Surrey leg of the Futures for Kids 2012 Walk to Work fund raiser.
Futures for Kids was established in 2008 by a group of people in the futures industry in Europe, with the aim of raising funds to support children’s charities around the world. It has since gone from strength to strength. This year’s walk saw around 100 people start walking from Tring, Billericay, Tonbridge Wells and Guildford at the eye-blinkingly early hour of 6am, converging on the City that evening to a reception complete with cheering, medals and, most importantly, some comfy seating to rest those blistered feet.
Some good-natured competition between the four routes has seen the total raised by this year’s event reach £54,000 at the last count, and that’s still on the rise. This money will be making a real difference to children near and far through charities Demelza, EveryChild, HOPEHIV and The Variety Club.
Special thanks to all those involved with the organisation, especially the main sponsors Eurex, Traiana and supporters Cinnober, Fidessa, ADM, Turquoise and Trading Technologies. And of course particular thanks from us here to the Surrey support team and their wonderful ministrations! We were delighted to play a small part in such a great event that demonstrates the power of people pulling together and putting in the hard yards – no pun intended. Here at Aspectus PR we hope to add to the miles next year…
