If you are not a follower of the Aspectus PR Twitter feed (and if not, you should really ask yourself why) you may have missed the FIG Seed Presentation Day held at the BBC Centre in White City last Friday.

FIG, which stands for ‘Find, Invest, Grow’ is a new Aspectus client who… cue ‘Ronseal moment’… does exactly what it says on the tin: an exciting new venture capital firm ripping up the rule book to unlock the VC market for students and recent graduates who have the drive and ambition to establish a business.

The event, sponsored by RBS and LinkedIn, provided an opportunity for start-up companies backed by FIG to present their ideas, plant their flag in the ground and set out their vision for the future.

On Friday night, an excited Aspectus team was escorted through the BBC’s corridors of power, adorned with posters promoting its most recent programme successes. There was of course, anticipation that we might bump into someone famous – either Alex Jones in the lift or John Humphreys on the stairwell – but it was not meant to be. Nevertheless, we were welcomed by FIG with champagne and nibbles as we mixed with investors, partners and FIG’s aspiring young entrepreneurs.

The presentations were compelling and compèred brilliantly by Andrew Grahame, founder of Mr and Mrs Smith Hotels and London Pass. With topics ranging from neuroscience and ready meals to where to find the best sales, there really was something for everyone. Indeed, the phrase ‘everyday’s a schoolday’ proved most appropriate, with the facts coming thick and fast – whether it was the population of Liechtenstein (32,000 FYI) or how many seconds before people stop paying attention when browsing a website (hopefully, you’re still with us?).

Certainly, we found the presentations both fascinating and exciting and, by the buzz in the room afterwards, it was clear the majority of the 150+ audience agreed.

It was inspiring to be in a room full of so much drive and ambition and even more inspiring to know that FIG would be championing this talent the whole way by laying down the practical steps to unlock the true potential of Britain’s brightest and best young business talent.
