I’ve just returned from Kensington Olympia after attending this year’s Data Centre World exhibition and conference. As the UK’s largest and fastest growing event for data centre managers, IT professionals and channel partners, it was a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the technology that we talk and write about every day.
As experts and enthusiasts in all things business-tech, the variety of technologies on show was always likely to turn the heads of the Aspectus PR office. There’s never been a more exciting time to be talking about the data centre either. With cloud computing and virtualisation technologies threatening to transform the industry at a meteoric rate, showcase events like this really do offer a glimpse through the looking glass.
Running alongside a showroom packed full of racks, coolers and security equipment was a fascinating conference programme. With cloud computing dominating the discussion agenda as expected, networking giant Cisco set the trend with its presentation on starting your journey into the cloud. And this was an expedition that continued throughout the day with the likes of VMware and Microsoft all adding to the debate. Of course it’s no secret that cloud computing has been on the tips of tongues for quite some time now, but given the enthusiasm and optimism coming from the leading voices in the industry at today’s event, it may be a lot closer than many still believe.
Throw in a speaker slot for Aspectus PR client, SevOne, adding to the quality on display with a presentation on network performance management in the data centre, this year’s show was an overwhelming success (and that’s without even mentioning the impromptu appearances of a Harley Davidson and Lara Croft!)
